Teaching Languages in the Digital Era – Italian
By Enza Currenti October 10, 2013 Teacher Meet-Up
The ever increasing availability of multimedia has reached amazing new heights. The plethora of multimedia material available to teachers via social networks, blogs, and other online resources means that now more than ever, teachers have authentic resources at their fingertips. Language, perception, culturally authentic and educational multimedia resources all combine into audiovisual files created freely, uploaded & shared by people of all ages & all walks of life.
Social networks (e.g. facebook, youtube, pinterest, twitter, etc.) have become digital repositories of publicly accessible files & portable bookmark friendly digital libraries for educational purposes as well. We will look at how incorporating this in programming and lesson plan preparation accelerates the acquisition of the learning outcomes in the more challenging active skills of speaking and writing. It also enhances and facilitates the language teacher's task of engaging the students in culturally authentic reading and listening texts, as the audio visual material more often than not instantly appeals.

So how can we incorporate all of the above into our language teaching. Bring along websites relevant to your language. I will share Italian ones - I will also show how songs can be authentic resources that enhance cultural as well as linguistic acquisition of the target language. See you all there!
